Adam Lee, Managing Partner

Adam is the Founder and Managing Partner at Lobgesang Ventures. Prior to founding Lobgesang Ventures, Adam spent majority part of his career in the technology sector in Silicon Valley. Adam has held principal engineering positions at Oracle Corp. and Intel Corp, and has three technical patents pending. Leveraging his insights in software, networking, and technology, Adam is actively involved in security trading and key decision making for his family’s investment and is the COO of a multi-family investment office. Adam graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics, with a concentration in Finance from The Wharton School, a B.S. in Computer Science Engineering, and an M.S.E. in Telecommunication and Networking from the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He also received a M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Computer Systems from Stanford University. Adam was awarded the Alliance of Innovative Manufacturing Certificate from Graduate School of Business and School of Engineering from Stanford University. Adam is also a composer and singer in classical and various styles of music.

Mike Portnoy, Principal

Mike is a Principal at Lobgesang Ventures. Mike is the Director of Applications Development at BioClinica Inc., a leading provider of integrated clinical research services. He specializes in bringing a hands on approach to software leadership, with a focus on the intersection of business and technology. Mike is currently leading a team of engineers who are building a next generation clinical trials information management system. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Computer Science Engineering and a B.A. in Mathematics. Mike received the E. Stuart Eichert, Jr. Memorial Prize from the School of Engineering and Applied Science and was a Benjamin Franklin Scholar. Mike is an avid foodie and loves reading, watching films, and playing tennis.

Sushi Suzuki, Principal

Sushi is a Principal at Lobgesang Ventures specializing in innovation process. Sushi is a Professeur of Design Innovation at École des Ponts ParisTech and previously the Executive Director of the ME310 program at Stanford University. As a practitioner of the Stanford-IDEO design methods, Sushi has worked on various design challenges ranging from video game controllers to developing world education tools and new radio segments for NPR. In industry, Sushi helped design and prototype future telematic systems and services for DaimlerChrysler. He was also one of the founding members of i-kimono.com, a Japanese start-up company that handles antique kimono and accessories online. Artist by nature, Engineer by training, and Designer by desire, Sushi is always thinking of new ways to do the old things better. Sushi is a Ph.D. candidate with a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and B.A. in Studio Arts from Rice University. Sushi plays the ukulele.

Valerie Yip, Principal

Valerie is a Principal at Lobgesang Ventures. Prior to joining Lobgesang Ventures, Valerie was a VP in a boutique real estate investment and development group in Los Angeles. Valerie has many hands-on business operation and development experiences and a unique experience in real estate auctioning. Her area of specialties include financial modeling and projection, project financing, investing, investor reporting, underwriting, due diligence, structuring and executing transactions, financial planning, budget management, audit and tax returns preparation, as well as project management. She was also an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in New York and Hong Kong, involved in IPOs, advisory and investment transactions. Valerie graduated summa cum laude from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in Finance and Accounting. Valerie is also a classical concert pianist.

Chauwei Yak, Independent Director

Chauwei is a Managing Partner in GAO Capital and GAO Advisors, a multi-family investment office. Chauwei is an entrepreneur. Prior to co-founding GAO Capital and GAO Advisors, Chauwei was Director of Research of Ortelius Capital, LLC, a family office vehicle for Prince Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece with access to $1 billion AUM. Ortelius Capital is affiliated with the Search Investment Group, the family investment arm of Robert W. Miller, co-founder of Duty Free Shoppers. Search manages over $3 billion in hedge fund and private equity investments. At Ortelius Capital, Chauwei was responsible for building the firm’s research and portfolio management systems. She also headed selection and due diligence of hedge funds. Prior to joining Ortelius Capital, Chauwei was Assistant Vice President in the Strategic Business Development Group (internal Mergers and Acquisitions) at JPMorgan Chase in New York. Prior to that she worked as an Analyst for the Financial Institutions Group of UBS Investment Bank, working in both the New York and Tokyo offices. Throughout her career, Chauwei has been actively involved in her family’s investing activities, which include both real estate and public equities. Chauwei was born and raised in Singapore, and is fluent in Mandarin and Japanese. Chauwei graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, with a B.S. in Economics with a concentration in Finance from The Wharton School and a B.A. in Asian & Middle Eastern Studies and a minor in Mathematics from the College of Arts & Sciences of the University of Pennsylvania. Chauwei was awarded the Chartered Alternative Investments Analyst designation and completed Level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst program.
